La industria del turismo crece año tras año, con destinos tan exóticos como hoteles submarinos o impresionantes oasis llenos de lujos y comodidades, pero ahora un nuevo abanico de oportunidades se abre para el turismo, bueno tal vez no ahora, pero si en los próximos años, ¿de qué se trata? Pues nada menos que turismo espacial. El pasado 7 de junio la NASA anunció que permitirá a civiles visitar la Estación Espacial Internacional.
Aunque la NASA no está ofreciendo paquetes vacacionales ni nada parecido, entre las compañías privadas interesadas en explotar el turismo espacial están Virgen Galactic, propiedad del magnate Richard Branson, Axiom Space fundada por Michael Suffredini y SpaceX propiedad del magnate y físico Elon Musk. Siendo esta última la que ha conseguido llamar la atención del público con el desarrollo de la Starship MK1, presentada oficialmente el 28 de septiembre de este año junto con los motores Raptor.
Durante la presentación, Musk se mostró optimista y aseguró que su compañía comenzará a realizar sus viajes fuera de órbita durante el 2020. Aunque seguramente durante los primeros años del turismo espacial los viajes estarán orientados solo a personas adineradas, no cabe duda que los avances tecnológicos permitirán que muy pronto ir de vacaciones al espacio sea algo tan común como ir al bosque, al campo o la montaña.
